Next Generation System LSI Design Methodology will be driven by new style

Industrial & Academic collaboration.
Main currents as new style system level design.
SpecC research support program

17 top level researchers from Japanese University, and Research Laboratory
participate in SpecC research support program by SpecC technology Open Consortium.

SpecC Technology Open Consortium (STOC) asked Japanese key University and research laboratory to join "SpecC research support program", and the program will starts from April. It is three year long plan.
Next generation system LSI acts as key element to establish IT country or eJapan. The SpecC research support program aims its system level design methodology to become a new style and main currents of design flow for the system LSI.
The joined 17 researcher from Japanese key University, or research laboratory start their research with the SpecC based system level design language, or system level design methodology, and urge to get progress or practical use of them.
To support it, key companies offer their latest SpecC related variable tools to those 17 researcher without charge as for tool rent.
This is unique collaboration style by University and Industry in Japan. STOC plans to expand this program to foreign researchers in the future.

Dr.Rainer Doemer Center for Embedded Computer Systems

Regarding the "SpecC research program", I am very happy to see that such an activity is being launched in Japan. Getting researchers into the loop by making tools available to them will encourage further progress in the SpecC technology. I think this is an important milestone for STOC, especially since this project is running over a longer period of time. It would be great if a similar program could be started internationally, involving interested researchers in academia and industry worldwide.
